The Labels

The worlds first Green IT labeling initiative.
Officially launched in June 2008, the Computers Off label initiative is the computer industry's guide to help business, government and individuals quickly and easily identify organizations that are doing their part to reduce their power consumption and in turn reducing their CO2 emissions. The goal of the labeling is to encourage organizations to improve their use ICT equipment and to use technology to assist in reducing their carbon footprint.
The Computers Off Label is the ONLY environmental labeling program in Australia that indicates the environmental performance of a company and NOT a product.
The label is licensed to organizations that meet our ICT CO2 reduction labeling standards. The labeling cuts across all industries and all companies no matter the size.
An organization with 5 employees has as much responsibility as one with 50,000.

How does the "Computers Off" label work for government and businesses?
To earn the label, government departments, institutions and businesses have to meet the "Computers Off" labeling requirements and follow the specific program guidelines.
There are 3 labeling categories. The requirements for the labeling criteria are the same however the commitment depends on the type of entity.
The licensing guidelines cover items including the correct use of the Computers Off trade mark, and compliance with the Computers Off Code of Practice.
We will from time to time randomly select a number of licensees and carry out an independent audit to ensure businesses continue to comply with the various requirements under the licensee criteria.
What the label will look like on your website?
We provide you with a label that you can place on your site to promote your commitment to climate change. After you have joined, you will be able to select the label you comply with, that you can place anywhere on your website. Some people like to place their various accreditation badges along the bottom whilst others like to make them more prominent.

Can the badge be clicked?
Yes! When the badge is clicked a new window is opened containing a message to verify that your organization is a valid Computers Off Licensee. Only Computers Off Licensees get access to this advanced functionality which works in a similar way to the "click to verify" secure certificate badges, such as the ones issued by Thawte, Verisign and Geotrust.
The above image shows a scaled-down sample of the popup window that appears when users click your Computers Off Label. This advanced verification functionality is included with all Computers Off Labels and shows that your organization is genuinely green.
This also allows the user clicking on the label on your website the ability to view your Computers Off licensing compliance document. Within this document are the details of your power management, virtualization and or carbon neutral policy.
This becomes your way of being able to tell the world what you are doing to reduce your carbon footprint. This is also the area that you can detail more about your organization and will also be made available directly from the Computers Off website for other to view.
You’re account page.
