Computers Off Australia one of three finalists in the NEWS.COM.AU Green Awards

MELBOURNE, Australia. 12th September, 2008 — For the second time in as many months the Computers Off Australia campaign has been nominated for an environment award and have been short listed as one of the finalists for the NEWS.com.au Green Awards.

The NEWS.com.au Green Awards recognises and celebrates the determination of Australians to tackle the challenges facing our environment. They recognise innovations and solutions that can be easily adopted to help reduce our impact on the planet.

Computers Off Australia have been shortlisted along with 3 other organisations under the Green Business category. This category is awarded to the Australian individual or organisation making a significant contribution to environmental protection through innovative measures involving staff, resources or new business practices.

The Computers Off Campaign falls directly inline with the business awards outline with our focus on raising the awareness of climate change and educating business, government and individuals on the steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint through ICT (Information Communication Technology).

We are up against 3 fierce competitors, however with the Computers Off Australia campaign being a not for profit organisation and with our ability to save over $1,3 billion for business, government and consumers and 7,938,926  Tons of CO2 emissions we see that the judges will see the importance of this initiative, said Mark Winter, founder of Computers Off Australia.

We can’t be complacent with these awards and being nominated and reaching the finalists status is a great honour Winter went onto say. We would however like to encourage all within IT to register a vote for the Computers Off Australia campaign as this will keep the ICT industry at the forefront of the political and business agenda which is good for all of us.

We encourage all within the ICT industry to vote online at http://www.news.com.au/poll/1,,5017640-5035655,00.html.

We all agree that computers are a great invention, and can be used to unlock all sorts of social, economic and environmental benefits - including reducing the carbon impact of our modern lifestyle. But when they''''re left idling for hours on end, they''''re contributing to the greenhouse gas problem. For most of us, it’s an easy way to reduce the carbon impact of our computers by a third, a half or even more.

About Computers Off Australia

The Computers Off campaign is a simple but important initiative designed to educate home, business and government users on how to reduce our carbon footprint by enabling power management on our home and work computers.

The Computers Off Australia campaign is a non-profit organisation and is funded by licensing the right to use the ''''Computers Off'''' or ''''Computers Off Australia'''' Trademark on company websites and within marketing materials to show a commitment to reducing the CO2 footprint and assisting us with the fight against climate change.

Implementing power management will substantially reduce carbon emissions – and make a real difference to the planet.

Did you know that putting your PC to “sleep” or turning it off when you’re not using it, can save you up to $80 on your power bill and reduce your computer’s carbon emissions by up to 100kg over 12 months.

That’s the same amount of C02 you emit by flying from Sydney to Canberra!

The Computers off label is the computer industry’s guide to help business, government and individuals quickly and easily identify organisations that are doing their part to reduce their power consumption and in turn reducing their CO2 emissions.

The goal of the labelling initiative is to encourage organisations to improve the use of power throughout their ICT infrastructure and in turn reducing their carbon footprint.

The campaign challenges these entities to meet the Computers Off CO2 reduction and labelling requirements and we encourage you to look out for the computers off label and support organisation displaying the Computers Off labels.
