Bianca Wirth, with 12 years IT and management experience, was today announced as ComputersOff.ORG Australia new Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Wirth has served on the Advisory Board of ComputersOff.ORG for the past18 months.

Ms Wirth said she is very honoured to take up the position as CEO for ComputersOff.ORG and is excited to grow with the organisation.

”ComputersOff.ORG stands for a cause I deeply believe in: both reducing the environmental impact of technology and using technology to help solve environmental issues,” Ms Wirth said.

With 12 years IT and management experience working for major IT companies such as Microsoft, Ms Wirth was one of the first green IT specialists in Australia.

She started a green IT website portal in mid-2007 and completed her degree in Environmental Science in 2008.

Ms Wirth said since that time she has presented at numerous conferences and written articles on green IT for magazines.

“Currently I’m writing two chapters for an international Green IT book being published in mid-2010,” Ms Wirth said.

Paul Harapin has served alongside Ms Wirth on the Advisory Board and has vast experience in building and managing multi-million dollar IT corporations as the Vice President for VMware, Australia and New Zealand..

“Under her new leadership, we will continue to grow the profile of ComputersOff.ORG regarding the critical work we do to educate both the public and industry about the difference each one of us can make to reduce carbon emissions,” Mr Harapin said.

ComputersOff.ORG Founder, Mark Winter, said Bianca was a natural choice for the CEO role.

“Bianca come to us as one of the most highly regarded experts in green IT within Australia and is known globally for the work that she has done within this space,” Mr Winter said.

“We decided on Ms Wirth because she could take ComputersOff.ORG to the next level with certification and education and she also has the global reach to launch International Green IT Awareness Week,” Mr Winter said.

Another member of the Advisory Board for ComputersOff.ORG, Craig Scroggie, is the vice president and managing director of Symantec in the Pacific region.

Mr Scroggie said the IT industry plays an important role in helping to reduce emissions.

“By providing organisations with a range of energy–efficient solutions that improve the sustainability of their IT environment through ComputersOff.ORG we can fulfil that role,” Mr. Scroggie said.

“Since its inception in 2008, ComputersOff.ORG has been focused on helping educate individuals and businesses on the steps they can take to reduce their carbon footprint, contributing to a more environmentally efficient world,” he added.

Ms Wirth will take up her new duties immediately, with one of her first focus areas being the development of International Green IT Awareness Week in the first week of June 2010.

Ms Wirth succeeds Idris Sulaiman, Economist and Visiting Fellow at Australian National University, who remains on the ComputersOff.ORG Advisory Board.
